Congratulations Jacky Barr!

Huge congratulations to our very own Jacky Barr who was ordained Deacon at Christ Church Cathedral on Saturday.
Jacky will serve her curacy in the Benefice of Chinnor, Sydenham, Aston Rowant and Crowell, Oxfordshire.  St George’s wishes her and her family every blessing as she begins ordained ministry.

“Deacons are ordained so that the people of God may be better equipped to make Christ known.  Theirs is a life of visible self-giving.  Christ is the pattern of their calling and their commission; as he washed the feet of his disciples, so they must wash the feet of others.”                                         …

Emergency Life Support Courses at St George’s

St George’s has recently installed a defibrillator at St George’s Centre.
We are trying to publicise its availability as much as possible, and, in accordance with Heartstart Thatcham, the charity which jointly funded the defilbrillator, we will be running courses in Emergency Life Support.
The first course will take place on Monday 3rd July at 7pm in the Large Meeting Room at St George’s and will last approximately one hour.  There are 18 spaces available on the course, and other courses can be arranged in the future if needed.   If you would be interested in attending this training course, or a later one, please contact the church office.

Transept Glazing Designs – UPDATE

19th March 2015
Thank you for the speedy reply and comments on the design options (below), click here to see the decisions that PCC made on Wednesday 18th March…the short version is Option 4!
12th March – North Transept Community Meeting Room – Manifestations
Please read these notes before considering the designs…
• Health and safety requires us to have manifestations (etching) on the glass of the new transept meeting room area.
• PCC has already had an initial discussion and has decided that we need a design that offers a high level of privacy between those who use the room and those who may at the same time come into church to pray, light a candle, clean, arrange flowers etc.

Building Work Nears Completion!

You can keep up to date and follow the building work via our George Goes Green Blog!
Back from holiday to find the floor tiles are down! The nave has been grouted and the circular design around the chancel step is being cut with the aid of a ginormous DIY compass. With a significant part of the floor tiled you can really start to get a feel for how it’s going to look once its finished.
I’m reliably informed the underfloor heating works, handy given the recent departure of the heatwave. And what I thought was called the control panel, is actually the ‘Manifold’, but whatever its called, its all working, prompting a certain new churchwarden to …

Wash Common Retailers

Our Wash Common Total petrol station has now closed and work on the site has recently begun.  You may have noticed our petrol station’s moment of fame, or is that infamy, a couple of months back when the national news was highlighting the disparity in petrol prices.  Now it’s gone and we await the arrival of Sainsbury’s.  I, like many others, am concerned about the effect that a local Sainsbury’s will have on our parade of shops and particularly Budgens.  Budgens, through its manager Mike Eastlea, has been an integral part and generous benefactor to the local community over the years; I really do hope that Budgens will survive with a Sainsbury’s here too.
At almost the …

Phase Two Work Begins Soon!

I’m delighted to announce that it is all systems go for Phase Two and work will begin on Monday 1st October 2012.
The work will take 6 – 8 weeks and during that time all access to the church will be via the annex door on the south side of the church and much of the north car park will be fenced off.
During late October / early November there will be scaffolding in the church within the two transept areas. This is purely a safety precaution for the builders working in the transept roof void; we will still have full access and use of the transepts.
Just a reminder that there are four elements to Phase Two:
–        Insulation …
